Welcome to our page for Year 6 children!

 

September 2020

This term our theme is World War One. In English, we are exploring war poetry and stories linked to this theme. Maths focuses on place value and the four operations. We are honing our skills and knowledge as well as learning new ones. In Science, we are learning how electricity works as well as constructing our own circuits to alert us of our foes! PSHE focuses on working together and developing the skills needed to do this successfully. In RE, we are learning about Judaism, their practices and beliefs. PE sees us developing those team work skills further in tag rugby as well as building endurance in cross country running. In history, we are learning about World War One; working as historians to uncover the causes, battles, trench life and technologies. D.T. focuses on using our scientific skills to help us create alarm systems for the trenches.

 

October 2020

This term in year six, our theme is World War Two. In English, we have enjoyed exploring the narrative ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’. In maths, our focus has been on fractions and position and direction. In science, we have really enjoyed learning about electrical circuits and have created our own circuits as a warning system in a trench. We have been on walks around the town as part of our history topic and have enjoyed learning about the impact World War One had on our town and the significance of George Clare in Chatteris.

 

   

November 2020

This term in Year Six, our theme is World War Two. In English, we are exploring the narrative ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’. Maths focuses on fractions and position and direction; we are honing our skills and knowledge as well as learning new ones. In science, we are learning about how light works as well as constructing our own periscopes to use. PSHE focuses on managing safety and risk. In R.E. we are learning about Judaism - the teachings and lessons. P.E. sees us developing team work skills further in hockey as well as building endurance in cross country running. In history, we are learning about World War Two, working as historians to uncover the causes, battles, trench life and technologies. Art focuses on sculpture as we construct our own model Spitfires.
