Autumn 2 2021

This half term, we will continue learning about The World Wars and will focus on World War Two. In English, we will begin by writing narratives from different characters' perspectives using our Guided Reading text, ‘Private Peaceful’ by Michael Morpurgo. We will then be reading "Goodnight Mr. Tom" by Michelle Magorian and writing historical narratives and explanation texts based on this.

In Maths, we will be securing our fractions knowledge and will be learning to add and subtract fractions, before moving on to multiplying pairs of fractions and dividing fractions by whole numbers. In Science, we are learning all about light and how we use this to see. In History, we will be learning about World War Two; continuing to work as historians to uncover the causes of war, key events, technologies that were used during this period and the impact of war on different people.

In RE, we will be continuing to learn about Judaism. This term, our key question is: "What is more important: what you say or what you do?"" and we will be using religious stories to support us with answering this question. This year, our PE day will be Monday and during this time, we will be learning about the skills needed for both circuits and orienteering.

Autumn 1 2021

This half term, our topic will be World War One. In English, we will be exploring war poetry and stories linked to this theme and will also be writing narratives based on the animated video 'The Piano'. In Guided Reading, we will be developing our comprehension skills through reading 'Private Peaceful' by Michael Morpurgo. In Maths, we will begin by reading, writing, comparing and ordering numbers to ten million, before moving on to using these skills to explore number and the four operations.

In Science, we are learning all about electricity and circuits and we will use these new-found skills and knowledge to support us in creating security alarm systems for trenches in D.T. In History, we will be learning about World War One; working as historians to uncover the causes of war, key battles, life in the trenches and technologies that were used during this period. We will also be thinking about the impact of the First World War on our local area and have made links with Chatteris Museum to support us with this.

In RE, we will be furthering our learning from Year 5 and will continue to learn about Judaism. This term, we will be making links and comparing stories between different religions, particularly Judaism and Christianity. This year, our PE day will be Monday and during this time, we will be learning about the skills needed for both dance and rugby.
