We welcomed the Emotional Health and Wellbeing Team into school this week and they taught our children and staff a great strategy for calming:

Five Finger Breathing

Although it is normal for us all to experience a lot of different emotions, these can sometimes become too big for us.  In school we are supporting children of all ages to learn how to regulate their emotions so they can keep in control of their bodies and behaviour, even when they have big emotions.

A strategy you could try using at home to help to remain calm is five finger breathing.  By focussing on your breathing as in this strategy, you can slow down your brain and body’s reaction and give yourself time to think about what to do next.
