At Kingsfield, the teaching of English is designed to instil in children a love of speaking, listening, reading and writing that will last a lifetime. We aim to equip pupils with the key skills and knowledge to enable them to succeed in all curriculum areas, providing a foundation for learning throughout their school career and beyond.
Our English curriculum is delivered through the use of classic and contemporary texts that the children study throughout their time at Kingsfield. The curriculum is designed to make English interesting and exciting, engaging the pupils in the joy and wonder of books and stimulating their imagination and creativity.
At Kingsfield, we offer a wide range of experiences and challenges that enrich our core curriculum. Our daily English curriculum is enhanced by visiting speakers, including published authors, who deliver workshops for the children to inspire and engage them. We also take part in national enrichment events such as Book Week and World Poetry Day.
We want our children to leave us with the necessary English skills to equip them to be secondary ready. They will have developed a love of reading and writing and are confident and capable communicators. Academically, we want them to be achieving in line with national figures, at the very least.
